PalmPilot Tipsheet 1.0 ===================== In this Issue: =========== Notable Pilot Links Software Review: Aportis BrainForest Notable Pilot Links: ================== **PalmPower, an interesting new magazine on the web, with a weekly tip (nice design). This issue includes an interview with the inventor of the Pilot: **Tapped Magazine. They mainly offer a paper magazine subscription with limited articles online and files for download: **HandJive Magazine: **Interesting Tips & Tricks with Graffiti -- suggested alternate strokes for better recognition: **3Com's New Website. They seem to have a new design and also have a new menu item related to news on the pilot, on the web. **cnet's in-depth article about the PalmPilot -- with tips, tricks, suggested applications and so on. I found a several handy tips within the article; such as how to make a Calculator tape within the Pilot Calc application: **PalmPilot World-- Featuring "History of the Pilot" and an app usage survey: **Pilot Newspaper Daily -- Kind of a slick idea; this website will round up selected news from Yahoo/Reuters (and others) and generate either a DOC formatted text file with your news, ready to sync into your Pilot! Taking the concept one step further, he's working on an email service that will take your profile and email a .pdb DOC file to your mailbox each day! Interesting idea-- I tried the web based version and it worked pretty well, besides the [image] texts from converted html pages within the text. **The PalmPilot Webring -- for those of you who just want a truckload of sites to visit here's the place for you!! This is a listing of pages linked by "webring" which on 1/10/98 was at 194! **Tim Warner's PalmLife -- This site has been the one I've used most this month; with a "Quicklist" of the latest applications for the pilot with a low graphic overhead. He has a nice feature of allowing you to re-order the page by several criteria, including category, date and name. Software Review: Aportis' BrainForest ==================================== by Mike Rohde Well, this week I went ahead and bought the application BrainForest for my Pilot, which I have been using for the past 2 months. I had found that this application worked *very* well at project tracking-- in particular-- having hierarchal lists of my work projects with checkmarks, due dates and so on. It seems simple while still rich and offers many options to viewing your data. I even use this app to keep other info on the Pilot like websites, shopping lists and so on. I especially like the idea that one can grab 'trees' (that's what each to-do list is called) and email them to other BF users-- potentially useful for two people working on the same project. The application was and I feel well worth the price; there is a Pro version coming soon with desktop companion apps and conduits that will allow you to build and edit Trees on a PC or Mac to sync with the app on your Pilot, for another or for the Pro version (BrainForest and Desktop App). At Aportis's website, they offer a trial version (60 days until the annoying shareware message pops up) as well as documentation to help you learn how to use the program. I found it very intuitive and never really looked at the documentation (one day I might need to :). BrainForest Trialware 1.1 *Note that this company also offers AportisDoc, a large text reader for the Pilot-- another handy application for carrying larger text documents along with you. Have a look while you are there peeking at BrainForest. :) Tipsheet Wrapup ================= And that's Tipsheet 1.0! I Hope that you have enjoyed it.
