Only in Milwaukee: Polski ATM

Tonight I deposited a check in a local Milwaukee ATM, and saw something unusual:

Polski as an ATM option? I love it! :-)

Only in Milwaukee (and Poland)!

Wow, green phosphor... that ATM looks so 1980 with the CGA displays and all. In the area where I live most common languages for ATMs are english and german. Its great to read "Espanol" without the beloved ñ letter. :)

Here in Manchester there are Polish advertising posters everywhere, mostly banking ones. It's unusual to see, but nice to see that banks are making aneffort to market to specific communities properly.

Carlos: yeah, several ATMs here are still very 80s!

Kyle, I bet you coudl actually navigate the UI in Polski! :-)

Trump, I agree I would guess there must be many Polish immigrants in that area who asked for the added language. I thought it was unusual and cool to see Polski on the menu.

FYI, Milwaukee has a long Polish immigrant heritage, but that was a long while ago — dunno if anyone still speaks Polish from that earlier wave, so my guess is there must be new immigrants here in the city, or else very old Polish bank customers. :-)

Hey Mike! It's Mary! :)

First of all, that ATM is hilarious!

Secondly, we've been sort of computerless for a VERY long time! It's good to see you are still here! Drop a line!

Thanks for the note Mary, and glad to hear you're back! :-)

That is teh awesum! Was it near Art's Altenburg's Concertina Bar? :)

Heh — I wouldn't be surprised if they had Polski as an option there Pete! :-)

It was technically in West Allis, on National near HWY 100 — Mid Amerca Bank (formerly St. Francis Bank).

The surprising part to me, seeing your ATM screen, was that I thought the order was wrong--the Polish should have been on top! That's how they are here--oh, and no Spanish! If we have a third language on an ATM (Bankomat) here, it's German, not Spanish. ;-)

Nice seeing that photo!

BTW, the previous name of the bank should give you a clue to the reason for the Polish. ;-)
