New Wave 1980s Mix

A little fun for a Friday! Check out the New Wave 1980s Mix I threw together on Mixwit.com for your listening pleasure! :-)

Mixwit.com lets you create mix tapes from music already on the web. You enter what you want to hear, drag it into a list, customize the design, name and order of songs, then publish your mix for free! Check it out.

Bands include: New Order, The Fixx, The Cure, UB40, English Beat, Heaven 17, R.E.M., Tears for Fears, INXS, The Smiths, Haircut 100, Missing Persons, Flock of Seagulls and more... :-)

Check out my Mixwit Mix Tape Collection

Cool mix Mike. Good choice of music. We obviously have much the same 80s roots! :-)

I took a look at the Mixwit site myself. Nice idea, though when I tried to create a mix there was a tendency for songs I'd chosen to suddenly become unavailable. Whether that was because I was trying to do this behind a corporate firewall or not I have no idea, so I may try again later. Nice idea though.

I especially like the cassette tape logo: mix tapes were a really big thing in the 80s, something you did for your mates all the time in a vain attempt to get them to like the same music as you.

Something that's often puzzled me is that, despite the ease with which you can create playlists and burn them to CD with something like iTunes, it's just something that doesn't seem to happen any more. Maybe some of the romance has gone (it's too easy, you don't have to make your own cover, etc. etc.), so people don't bother.

Maybe I just move in the wrong circles. Maybe I've just grown up :-)

Whatever, I like this idea of being able to do it with music available online.

Awesome music choice Mike, New Order and Level 42 feature in my Top 10 bands of all time. The Shep Pettibone remix of Bizarre Love Triangle is really worth listening to ;)

Neal, glad you like the mix! Yeah, I recall doing a bit of a factory system creating limited edition tapes for my college pals. Problem with Mixwit.com is they rely on whatever MP3s they discover on the net, and minutes later they could be removed. So it's not perfect.

Thanks Carlos! Hope your office team enjoyed the 80s today. :-)

Kevin, sounds like you have good taste!

Mike, added Paranomia to the list now, with Max Headroom! Ad for URLs, I turned that off to thwart spammers. If you just leave the URL here in raw format it will link up though.

Thanks Wayne! I'd forgotten about Level 42 until last night, they really had a great sound! I'll check out that New Order remix!

Just found your blog, am enjoying it very much. That MIXWIT is really cool. I can't stand how cool the interface is with the cassette and pen-handwriting of the song name! How neat is that? :)

I'm STILL listening to your MixWit mix tape. You have the best taste in music! I'm a girl of the 80's. Graduated h.s. in 88. :)

Mike - been a lurker for years that happens to live in Oak Creek, WI. Never posted before but your taste in good 80's alternative music finally moved me to post something. Your mix has helped me through this rainy Monday morning. Thanks.
